Windows Media Services Core install package should not install on a non-Core version of Windows Server 2008

Action

You install the Windows Media Services 2008 Core installation package on a Windows Server 2008 not running Server Core.

Result

The package installs, but the Windows Media Services services is not available.

Cause

The Core installation package is intended only for the Server Core version of Windows Server 2008.

Resolution

Install the Windows Media Services server roll instead of the Windows Media Services core role.  In the KB 934518 (/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=934518)  article, this is the install with server in the file name.
