When attempting to use Windows Easy Transfer to transfer user files to or from a laptop computer in a docking station using a USB cable, neither computer will progress past the “Install the Easy Transfer Cable and connect your computers” screen.

Cause

Windows Easy Transfer may be unable to communicate due to docking station hardware or software incompatibilities.

Resolution

To resolve the issue use one of the methods listed below:

Method 1: Remove the laptop from the docking station

1.       Remove the laptop from the docking station and ensure that the USB cable is connected directly to the laptop

2.       Restart Windows Easy Transfer

Method 2: Plug the USB cable directly into the docking station

1.       Keep the laptop in the docking station but try plugging the USB cable directly into the docking station instead of the laptop computer

2.       Restart Windows Easy Transfer
