SYMPTOMS

When you use two virtual directories that share the same physical folder on a Windows Server 2008-based computer, you experience the following symptoms:

• The first virtual folder enables the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) upload functionality. This creates the Bits-Sessions subdirectory.
• The second virtual directory disables the BITS upload functionality. This deletes the BITS-Sessions subdirectory that was created by the first virtual folder.

Therefore, the BITS client upload job fails.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the two virtual directories point to the same physical directory. If you disable one of the virtual directories, the Bits-Sessions subdirectory is deleted. Then, the other virtual directory cannot process the BITS upload functionality even though it enables the BITS upload functionality.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, reconfigure the two virtual directories so that each of them point to different physical directories.
