iTunes for Windows plays video files without any audio

You may experience a situation in which songs will play normally, but all video files play without audio. This will affect video files purchased from the iTunes Store as well as other movies you’ve added to iTunes.

To resolve this issue, it will be necessary to uninstall QuickTime (installed with iTunes), download the QuickTime standalone installer, and reinstall QuickTime. Follow the steps below to do this:

Microsoft Windows Vista

  1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
  2. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program.

Alternately, in Classic View of Control Panel, click Programs and Features.

  1. Select QuickTime.
  2. Click Uninstall.
  3. Repeat steps 3 and 4 if you have multiple QuickTime entries listed.
  4. Download the QuickTime for Windows standalone installer at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html and save it to your desktop.
  5. Double-click the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file on your desktop and follow the instructions to install QuickTime.
  6. Open iTunes and play a movie file. The audio should now play with the video.

Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 2000

  1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
  2. Open the Add or Remove Programs control panel.
  3. Select QuickTime.
  4. Click the Change/Remove button.
  5. Click Remove.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 if you have multiple QuickTime entries listed.
  8. Download the QuickTime for Windows standalone installer at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html and save it to your desktop.
  9. Double-click the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file on your desktop and follow the instructions to install QuickTime.
  10. Open iTunes and play a movie file. The audio should now play with the video.
