This article describes how to customize a toolbar or the menu bar in Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac. This article also describes how to reset a toolbar or the menu bar back to its default settings.

Add or remove buttons or commands on a toolbar or on the menu bar

To customize a toolbar, a button, a command, or the menu bar, follow these steps:

  1. On the View menu, click Customize Toolbars and Menus.
  2. Click the Toolbars and Menus tab.
  3. Select the Show check box for the toolbar that you want to change.
  4. Click the Commands tab.
  5. Under Categories, click a category.
  6. Use one of the following methods:
    • To add a command to a toolbar or to the menu bar, drag the command from the Commands list to where you want to add the command on the toolbar or on the menu bar.
    • To remove a command from a toolbar or from the menu bar, drag the command off the toolbar or off the menu bar.

Reset toolbars or the menu bar

You can restore a toolbar, a button, a command, or a menu bar that you customized to the original (default) settings. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the View menu, click Print Layout.
  2. On the View menu, click Customize Toolbars and Menus.
  3. Click the Toolbars and Menus tab.
  4. In the list, click the toolbar or the menu bar that you want to change.
  5. Click Reset.

Note You cannot reset a custom toolbar that you created.
