Error message when you try to open multiple instances of an InfoPath 2007 form at the same time by using different input parameters

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

  • You create a Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007 form template that contains an input parameter.
  • You publish the template to a content library of a Microsoft Office SharePoint site.

In this scenario, when you try to open multiple instances at the same time of the InfoPath form by using different input parameters, you may receive the following error message:

InfoPath cannot open the form because another version of the form template is currently open. Close all forms using the form template and try again.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply hotfix 957695, and then set the value for the InputParametersOpenMultipleForms registry entry to enable the hotfix. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Apply hotfix 957695.For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  2. Set the value for the InputParametersOpenMultipleForms registry entry. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_Current_User Software Microsoft Office 12.0 InfoPath EditorCommon
    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    4. Type InputParametersOpenMultipleForms, and then press ENTER.
    5. Right-click InputParametersOpenMultipleForms, and then click Modify.
    6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
    7. Exit Registry Editor.
