More information for advanced users

This issue occurs when the Managed Object Format (MOF) file that is associated with Security Center (Wscenter.mof) has been modified in a way that makes it incompatible with the update process.

By performing the procedure in the Resolution section, you use the MOF compiler, Mofcomp.exe, to register the original MOF file. (Mofcomp.exe is included with Windows.) The Windows Vista SP1 update replaces the original MOF file registration, and this behavior causes the problem that is described in the Symptoms section. After you restore the original MOF file registration, install the update again.
