Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. This hotfix fixes the following issue that is not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

You configure the DisableTemplatesOnTheWeb registry entry to make 2007 Office applications show the FileNew dialog box for the earlier versions of Office applications instead of for 2007 Office applications. To do this, you follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Policies Microsoft Office 12.0 Common Internet
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type DisableTemplatesOnTheWeb, and then press ENTER.
5. Right-click DisableTemplatesOnTheWeb, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
7. Exit Registry Editor.

After you follow these steps, the FileNew dialog box for the earlier versions of Office applications appears when you open the FileNew dialog box in a 2007 Office application. However, 2007 Office templates will also be listed in the FileNew dialog box. This is not expected behavior.

Note To open the FileNew dialog box in 2007 Office applications, click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click New.
