Symptom

You may see a blank screen upon log-in if you have disconnected one of multiple monitors while the system was locked in screen saver mode

Cause

This issue is caused by display card drivers that do not support the IViewHelper API or have it disabled.

Resolution

Once you encounter this problem, one of the following options can be used as a workaround.

Option 1:
1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to re-lock the machine.
2. Reconnect the second monitor.
3. Log back onto the system.
4. Remove second monitor while logged on.

Option 2:
1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the logon screen.
2. Select “Log Off” [Note: Any un-saved work may be lost when you log off.]
3. Log back onto the system.

More Information

This is more likely to occur if the monitor being removed is the secondary monitor and is set to a higher resolution than the primary monitor.
