A Windows Vista-based or Windows Server 2008-based computer that has MADCAP installed cannot obtain a multicast address from the DHCP server

A Windows Vista-based or Windows Server 2008-based computer that has Multicast Address Dynamic Client Allocation Protocol (MADCAP) installed cannot obtain a multicast address from the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Windows Firewall blocks the MADCAP protocol. This is by default.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, enable an exception for MADCAP in Windows Firewall. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:

netsh firewall portopening protocol=UDP port=2535 name=MADCAP mode=ENABLE scope=ALL profile=CURRENT
