SYMPTOMS

In Windows Vista, if an application uses the ReadEventLogA function to read a Unicode string from the event log, the string appears as a question mark.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the ReadEventLogA function cannot read Unicode strings correctly.

Hotfix information
